Stop the Tax
The provincial government’s proposed speculation tax has been widely talked about since it was announced in February 2018. This issue has been top-of-mind for the Association since then.
CHBA BC has met multiple times with the provincial government, including Finance Minister Carole James, senior staff members and tax branch officials to express concern and opposition to the tax.
We have voiced our concerns that the tax will impact jobs in the province, could disproportionally impact land for development, and hurt the economy and the industry. We are all concerned about housing affordability but this policy approach is not the solution to get there.
CHBA BC’s CEO Neil Moody has also been in the media: in March when changes were first announced, in a summer op-ed first published in the Vancouver Sun on July 24, and as of this week as the implementation date nears.
We now need your help.
We are in the final weeks before the legislation may become official in October. It’s time for a final push and more action.
Crucial to the success of this campaign is our continued member support and there are many ways you can support our efforts.
Share your story online using this link. We are using a digital app called StoryTap that will help collect stories from across the province. We want to demonstrate to the government and inform the public that average people are affected by this tax.
Feel free to share this link with your homeowners, your tradespeople, and your industry colleagues.
